We hear the term Superfood very often these days. The name itself sounds so encouraging. Think about it, SuperMan, SuperWoman… SuperFood 😉 It clearly makes you think that it’ll be highly beneficial for you. We’re even gonna talk about Superfoods For Weight Loss. At the same time I don’t remember hearing about this kind of food when I was younger. It is something that has been introduced to us recently. So what actually are these Power Foods?
The meaning behind Superfoods
For some reason I was convinced that this word has a secret meaning. Everyone puts them in their smoothies which apparently makes them great. Well I want my shakes to be great to! Imagine my surprise when I found out that Superfood is simply a marketing term… Let’s not it just yet. Having this new information in mind, let’s treat Superfoods more as an idea. It’ll signify a group of foods that have high health benefits as a result from an exceptional nutrient density. The way I see it it’s that these foods simply can improve our health in many different ways. Everywhere you’ll look you’ll see a different list of Superfoods. There is no specific criteria with choosing them hence why we get many opinions. I’m gonna choose the ones that I find the most beneficial for our health and weight loss. I try to always have them in my kitchen.
Berries are mentioned almost everywhere as a Superfood. Think about them as kings and queens of this family. Named the powerhouse of minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and fibre.
This last nutrient will be your best friend when it comes to weight loss. It’s a type of complex carbohydrate which is very important for our digestive health and regular bowel movements. Thanks to Fibre we can feel full longer. It has the power to improve our cholesterol and blood sugar. It can also help preventing heart disease, diabetes and bowel cancer.
The most common berries we know:
You can add them basically to any meal during the day. For me the easiest way would be a breakfast smoothie, protein smoothie or any kind of mixture in my blender 😉 They work fantastic also as a topping to your porridge.
Another incredible group with vegetables that can improve your life and health. Other names you might hear for it are: leafy vegetables, salad greens, vegetable greens, pot herbs or just greens. It all means that we eat plant leaves as vegetables. The ones that I’ve chosen for you are high in a dietary fibre. This will help you control your weight. All leafy greens are low in calories and fat. At the same time they’re high in protein per calorie.
- Kale – 84% water, 9% carbohydrates, 4% protein, 1% negligible fat – raw much better that cooked.
- Spinach – 91% water, 4% carbohydrates, 3% protein, 2% negligible fat – cooked is better digested and it’s nutrients are absorbed more completely.
- Swiss Chard – 93% water, 4% carbohydrates, 2%, protein 1% negligible fat – raw slightly better than cooked.
- Collard Greens – 90% water, 6% carbohydrates, 3% protein, 1% negligible fat
Overall these are foods every person should include in their diet because of their incredible health benefits, vitamins and minerals. Healthy body would much likely be more keen to weight loss as we’ll have more energy to do everything towards our goals.
Now with this one you have to remember that the amount of the things you eat makes a big difference. When your goal is weight loss, you’ll most likely choose the healthy ingredients but if you’ll eat tons of them you probably won’t see any effects or they’ll be opposite to what you want. Be careful with nuts. They’re fantastic foods, rich with nutrients you want but when eaten in a big dose, they might do more harm.
Almonds – are believed to be the most healthy nut out of all of them. They’re packed with nutrients and
are also a great source of fibre and protein. They can fill you up while you’re trying to reduce the calories intake. This would be your go-to snack when trying to loose weight and change the snack habit. They can also reduce the risk of a heart disease and reduce your cholesterol. That’s just a few benefits, there are much more which make this nut highly valuable for every person.
Pistachios – another fantastic nut to look for. Might cost us a little more and there is work to do to get them out of the shell but it’s all worth it. It also helps preventing heart diseases and significantly helps with cholesterol. Our best friend fibre will help us with weight control.
Walnuts – very popular nut which also can help us a lot. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids with have many powerful benefits for our body and brain. Around 8 walnuts per day should be a good amount to get the benefits from it.
Cashews – the fat is cashew is called the ‘good fat’, which means that it can reduce the risk of stroke or prevent a hear disease. When it comes to weight loss, this type of fat can make you feel full and satisfied much quicker.
Make sure you remember to choose healthy option. The health guidelines recomment eating a one-ounce (28grams) a day. Anything with processed nuts like for example peanut butter can also contain salt and sugar so it’ll make you gain weight instead of losing weight.
This magic Superfood is also something I got to know only a few years ago. They’re among the most nutritious foods on the planet. They contain 12g of carbohydrates per ounce (28 grams). Can you imagine that 11g of it is actually our best friend fibre?! It makes chia one of the best source of fibre in the whole world! Other fantastic quality about Chia is that it can absorb around 11-12 times their weight in water. It’s turning to a gel-like consistency and expands in our stomachs. It might also reduce our appetite. It all leads to being extremely useful on the weight loss diet.
Losing extra kilograms without thinking too much
Have a look at all these Superfoods For Weight Loss one more time. The only thing that comes to my mind is ‘this would be a delicious smoothie’. Maybe it’s my healthy addiction talking but just imagine these ingredients put together:
- raspberries, berries & strawberries
- spinach & kale
- chia seeds
- some water or almond milk
You can always add some oats and there you go – The Best Breakfast or your recipe for a Weight Loss Smoothie. Taking control of our health or weight doesn’t have to be that difficult anymore. We can get so much knowledge nowadays from anywhere. If you’ll know more about your favourite products you’ll be able to use them more often in many different ways. This could easily also be a salad:
- spinach, kale & swiss chard
- chia seeds
- add some olive oil

One thing we have to always remember is that too much of any product can have bad results. Eat slowly, this way you’ll get the right information when your stomach is full and you’ll eat less. Make sure you eat variety of nutritious food every day and your diet will be balanced and healthy.
